The input hardware on a ZX Spectrum is very simple. The ULA only reads five keyboard input lines when requested by the Z80 CPU. Everything beyond that in terms of keyboard processing is done by the ROM code and the Z80 CPU. -

Ok, I've completely re-written the keyboard input routines, I eventually understood what XoRRox was saying and have addressed that.
A couple more code tweaks and I'll release the fixed version. -
