    Using a lookup table is probably best, but if you really wanted to do it without, you could use self-modifying code.

    Have a [B]SET 0,(HL)[/B] instruction, and modify the last byte from C6 to be (C6 | (x&7)

    that makes better sense as to why the values dropped when the notes rose???
    anyway the lookup table is done for moonlight sonata (sounds good) now the tricky bit.....the game.
