The 48k does have seperate EAR and MIC ports, and the 48k leads are mono. It might not be wise to connect a mono 48k loading cable to the +3's socket (which I believe is stereo). -

It is stereo - obviously the ear and mic are connected to the same jack - that would be stereo. I was thinking of the actual sound output being mono. -

It would have to have two mono sockets to one stereo plug. Two stereo sockets with a mono plug inserted will damage the spectrum. I would recommend getting a stereo plug to two phono plugs cable and a couple of phono socket/mono jack plug adapters. -

I use settings of 'mono' and sampling rate of 44,000.
If there are still problems then try loading the tape into an original speccy and then use that volume setting to make your sample.
