It is possible that the RGB port on your Spectrum may not be working correct a faulty component perhaps.

Come to think of it, is the scart plug (Spectrum end) a sealed unit?
If not then can you prise it open to see if a wire has come away?
And why not take the scart plug (TV end) apart to see if the same has happened.

If it was wired for composite PAL then it would not work as the Plus2A/Plus3 do not have composite PAL just RGB.
All previous Spectrum 128`s had composite PAL (video)as well as RGB not the newer PLus2A/+3`s

It's not much, but I went through 6 months of hell a few years back. On the bright side, no matter what has been thrown at me since hasn't been as bad. -
