just write a .mid player for the speccy, and connect it to a synth through the midi out port ;)

As far as sound goes, I prefer SID to AY. Musically, I tend to prefer AY to SID whenever there is a choice.
On a sidenote, I was rather shocked to learn that so many games had completely different music on C64 and ZX. -
