    He said for Windows XP. Sad but true, Real Spectrum, as it is now, is not the best emulator to be used on such an OS. At present I would rather recommend Spectaculator, Spin, Klive or EmuZWin.

    It's not as difficult as it seems. But a good guide is vital. I recommend The Complete Machine Code Tutor by New generation software. You can download it from the site for one of the emulators. It is superb.
