A 32 column pattern is seen when some or all video chips are 'not present' (3-state?). Which differs from them being defect in the normal way. Looking at the pattern I would say that 5 out of 8 are 'not responding' or missing. -

Has it had the composite video mod made? If not, test the composite output. If the same thing is not present there you know it's the modulator.
