    There are no arrays in asm. There is RAM, which you can use any way you want. Imagine that BASIC had no array operations at all, and you have to use only POKE and PEEK.

    There is system variable P_RAMT (23732, 2 bytes), which shows amount of physically available RAM. So PRINT PEEK 23733 will show 127 for 16K and 255 for 48K.
