Penetrator was probably the first scrolling shooter I ever played on the Speccy and I still love it. Other goodies (which have all been mentioned) include Bedlam, R-Type and Commando. I also liked Typhoon and Guerilla War. -

Basically, you fire something at the bird using the trapdoor. And when it flies away it'll lay eggs, make sure you catch it is a pan, then cook it over a stove and serve.
