you can get some useful programs of the +3e site, for example one the MSDOS program allows you to read 720k DOS formatted disks on the +3, and MFORMAT which lets you format the 3.5" disk to a variety of different formats -

I can only recommend RealSpectrum as the others don't seem to support PlusD interface/.MGT format. Whereas RS supports both the .MGT format and real floppy disks.
