Hmmm, maybe the NMI signal on the Multiface's throughput connector has been separated from the ZX's NMI, so the button on the Multiface triggers the Multiface NMI sequence, and the PlusD button triggers it's own rom. -

The PlusD doubles the length of the 'steprate' specially when resetting the head to TRK0. Something might be critical there..... You could try to poke STPRAT (#2003) with a higher value and see if it makes any difference. -
