    You could put a POKE 23659,0 somewhere in the program and make sure that you reset it with POKE 23659,2 before you return to BASIC. That should do the job.

    Little-known fact: POKE 23659,1 and you can print to line 22 and 23, but if an error occurs BASIC won't crash (it'll just trash the screen with thich black and white stripes).

    I usually find it safer and less hassle to print to channel 0 or 1.
