It's possible it could be the power supply unit, especially if it's a replacement type. Most cheapo replacements are only 300mA types that won't run hardly anything bar a Sega MS or Atari 2600. I'd check that out first (as well as the polarity!) -

I think the polarity issue must be addressed somehow. ... and some with negative polarity. Thats why the polarity was never added ... don't load if the polarity starts the other way around ... some sound cards produce the polarity differently ;)

Ya you can use any old 9v thing so long as the polarity is right (solder iron to the rescue) and the ampage is there. Im using an off the shelf one here in the states to run my speccy with no probs.
