Audacity (free, but runs on Linux) is great for mixing multiple tracks. I use it for the documentary soundtrack. It has recording facilities too. -

It is NOT illegal to use BitTorrent - it's used everywhere to distribute Linux disk imgaes, for instance, and that's completely legal.
