Hmm, not an easy one to answer.
R-Type and Operation Wolf for their closeness to the coin-op originals.
But that said, I've been playing both recently on a real Spectrum so that has probably influenced my choices. -

Of course - how can I forget R-Type. That's every bit as playable on the Speccy as was down Southend pier.
I played it in the arcade recently actually, against a friend of mine and I was on it for ages on just 10p. Bargain. -

Does anybody happen to have a snapshot of R-Type's last level? I'd love to see it (my copy was one with it missing) but not sure if I can be bothered to play through the 1st 7 levels again. -

Penetrator was probably the first scrolling shooter I ever played on the Speccy and I still love it. Other goodies (which have all been mentioned) include Bedlam, R-Type and Commando.
