    Use the clock, it increases each 1/50 sec.
    Set 23672 to 231 (=999-768 ) and 23673 to 0.
    Then read PEEK 23673 or INKEY$. When PEEK 23273 = 4 then at least 999 counts have passed (depending on how fast you can read in BASIC).
