The latest version of X128 has ZX81 support, although its only at beta stage. But maybe it's possible to save files to tzx from there.
I'm not sure myself, as I have no ZX81 software to try that with.

Does the emulator run in DOS or Windows? Its pretty common for DOS based programs to have mucked up/no sound in Windows XP. X128, RealSpec all mess up in Windows XP. -
