I think most people who do remakes probably do it for the challenge more than the end product - after all, if the game is good enough to remake the spectrum graphics and sound probably didn't hinder the gameplay. -

Also consider that games such as Commando et al were arcade conversions - you want a remake with better gfx and sound but similar gameplay? Go for MAME. -

Unless they make them dark, backgrounds on Manic Miner would be a mistake. The Retrospec remake of MM is a great example of how such a game should be updated.
