I recall that the tapes they used were much longer playing than the usual tapes used for videogames with about 15 or 20 minutes to a side. Seemed such a waste and meant you had to rewind rather than flip over when you wanted to play the game again. -

Did anyone ever try forward error correction? You could put an extra block at the end which was the XOR of all other blocks, then if you only had one failed block you wouldn't need to rewind the tape.
