    yes the 1st one takes 7 bytes for "1"..
    second one takes 4 bytes (val "1") and
    last one (sgn pi) takes only 2 bytes.

    While it is true that BIN may not have any zeros or ones following it, the SCANNING routine does add the CHR$14 number marker and five bytes for the integer form.
    If you have the memory, it is better and clearer to stick to conventional expressions.

    Only ... have enough information in 256 bytes to completely construct a decoder ... 't be more than 150 bytes, at a guess. An 8 ...
