I'd maybe recommend SCR for loading screens and PNG for any in-game screens then. JPG for inlays and stuff only.

SCR is basically a terrible format for storing Spectrum screenshots, it's really only suitable for use on an actual spectrum as a way of storing a static screen dump. Use something more modern like PNG.
