    Forgot about the Horace games, Horace and the Spiders, was that the 2nd game in the trilogy ?

    If so perhaps that game, the early level where you have to jump over the spiders was an early scrolling example.

    I'd imagine the first Speccy game with scrolling was probably one of the million or so Scramble, Defender, etc. arcade rip-offs that came out soon after the Speccy was released.

    A game called Fred came out in 1983 which was a platform adventure. But the scrolling was incredibly choppy. Splat! was 1983 and innovated on two counts: scrolling (of a kind) and speech. Good game too.
