Of course if you're using an IDE-CF adapter with a simple 8-bit interface it is possible to use the whole memory card, but that would require changes to the ROM ;) -

SNA2DSK in [url=http://www.seasip.demon.co.uk/ZX/unix.html]TAPTOOLS[/url] will take a 48k snapshot and convert it to a .DSK image.
TAPTOOLS also has a tap -> dsk converter, but that's only going to be automatic for simple BASIC programs. -
