We load games as if they were tapes simply because it's now cooler than using snapshots - they went out of fashion somewhat.

It's possible to modify a Spectrum+ so that it has one composite video out and two audio outs WITHOUT adding transistors or other hardware, but simply soldering three copper cables in the right places.
