    Should be no problem, AFAIK about IC soldering - just make sure that there is no contact with any other pin on the IC.

    Will the speccy run o.k. with out the interface 1 attached?
    As interface 1`s are not worth repairing, find the chips, de-soldering and re-soldering them is a real pain. You could get another one on ebay ?10 - ?30.

    No, you can just buy a good quality Composite Video to VGA converter box (one that has an RF input). AverMedia make great converters for a reasonable price. However if you are after a clear picture then soldering is the best way to go.

    Yep the good old fashioned way! I'm thinking of investing in some more soldering tools for SMT etc. Will probably get some DIL soldering iron bits. I remember a great deal of frustration getting those chips out!
