The Speccy 128K version did have speech through it's internal sound chip.
There was "Missile Launched", "Energy Low" and "Docking Complete".

Real Spectrum can read SCL disk images. You still can convert it to TRD format if you use an emulator which does not read SCL files (eg X128). I agree a .tzx file would be great, the .scl file I have been running keeps on crashing, hopefully a different format will perform better.
