Woody, just looked at the dissasembly of the zx81 loader and thats what is there :) It checks the amplitude of the signal, checks the difference between the last check and loops :)

Why not just stay with SpecEMU? It works just fine under XP (that's what I run it under), and there's even a windowed version floating around which looks a bit like all the others and works like SpecEMU, surprisingly enough.
