Err... one more thing. There are actually two commands used to retrieve ID sector. ECh for "standard" ATA devices and A1h for ATAPI (Packet Interface) devices. Maybe a new format revision should contain a flag/field telling which one of the two was used? -

I doubt it. I can detect whether there is a CD in the tray, and send the commands to open/close the drive. I am not aware of anyway to programaticaly (is that a word) detect whether the drawer is open. -
