    Yes, ... the first item on the stack will be the return address ... for pushing parameters on the stack before the "CALL zx_setstr" ... and then for restoring the stack (removing parameters) after the call ...

    Given that the stack must be preserved, you can just PUSH HL before saving the stack, and POP HL after restoring it.
