Thanks! You were right. I had turned off Use tape traps, Fast tape loading and Detect tape loaders. It didn't occur to me that Auto-load media would have an effect. -

Thanks a lot folks I managed to steal a couple of hours of "real life time" and between here and lemon64 I now have a reasoniable amount of information regarding tape loaders.
Now I have to get my 6502 coding back to what it was in 1986.
