    Well, applying the patch didn't change anything for me. The program behaves the same as before; the window doesn't move, but with aspect-hint set to 0, it does.

    I've just done everything on my Ubuntu 6.10 machine. The patch didn't help here. The same as in the 6.06 machine.
    The audio is now fixed!!. The --without-libao worked for me. The sound no longer lags.

    You did copy the patch to the folder where the main executable is didn't you? Most of the time these patches are simply a replacement of the main exe.
