The whole point of the heatsink is to keep the voltage regulator cool (just like the much smaller heatsink inside the 48K machine). Without it, the 7805 should go down the drain pretty fast. -

I agree.... nothing beats a 48K Rubber key speccy for true authenticity.
Failing that, a 128K+ Toastrack type is a good alternative. Although I have all of them, from a 16K upwards, I use the 128K+ the most.
