I've got a similar problem. Got two Spectrum +2's, they seem to turn on ok but i just cant get a picture when i connect to the TV. Must be something simple i hope , be a shame to chuck em away. -

Unfortunately I have no win98 installed this time, only running it on VmWare / Connectix VirtualPC and there it seems working normally. Are you sure you just did not changed some effects? May be it become better if you turn off Smooth Scale effect? -

It's not the byte loader per se with those two - you need to turn off the autostart/stop for these.
