    Yup, UDG's are really the only way to go. You'll be limited to moving them in character-blocks ( 8x8 ), but they're pretty quick. Anything done with ploting pixels (circles, lines etc) is going to be too slow for any kind of game.

    Does this stil mean that the dumps of the SP-disks are still usable on an emulator?

    I would surely hope so, since there is no absolute guarantee that my disk is fully working.
