I just had a thought - is this the machine with the 6C001E-5 ULA?
If so, I wonder is this the reason why this revision is so rare? You could try swapping a 5C112E or upwards ULA from another machine in for a test.

if they made a 'full' copy of ULA in FPGA, is there no way that with software and some precise clock measurement or something, one can tell difference? some sort of 'FPGA Turing test'. -
