Turning off Fast loading and Auto play/stop gets it to work.

The ZX81 won't work very well (if at all) except on the older TVs with manual tuning. If it's one of the newer(?) TVs with auto tuning or a digital tuner, you'll likely get either a very bad picture or no picture at all :(
