The Snow effect can affect all columns, both odd and even from Woody's experiments which I was a witness to - we had a fullscreen attribute-level vertical scroller at one point, which was entirely unintended but looked lovely :)

Well, my solution doesn't involve any machine code at all - you're just changing the BASIC code on the fly.
