Commodore made the fatal mistake of trying to replace the VIC-20 with another low-end machine in the C16. This kept the C64 price artificially inflated keeping it out of direct contention with the Spectrum for another year. -

Hehe, nice one beanz... the interesting thing is Commodore originally looked at using a slimline, wedge-shaped case for the C64, but in the end penny-pinching led to them squeezing the motherboard into the VIC-style case...
