You could use maketzx and create a .tzx from the .wav file without having to go through so many conversions. You could even create the .tzx in real time while reading the tape. -

How are you trying to load the image into Fuse? I've tested this by recording the iPhone output with Audacity, and saving the result as a WAV file.
