Thats not a lot different to a program I wrote to run Shadow of the Unicorn on a +2a. The ZX81 is slower than a spectrum so it might not actually be slower.

I see the +2 socket has a brightness signal and no voltage signal. Maybe you should make a composite video cable. There is instructions in the comp.sys.sinclair faq pinouts page.

The Spectrum In EuropeWhat are the differences between Speccys in Europe and the UK? ie would a British 48K work in France or Italy, and vice versa?
On a +2a ceramic resonator x200 can be changed to either 5.5Mhz or 6Mhz. I'm not sure about other spectrums.
