Did you use the four pokes? You might have taken the invisible object without noticing. I don't think it can be finished without the invisible object or else why would the poke be necessary.

As far as I know, the built in +3/+2A ROM and CP/M Plus for +3 have Epson FX-80 compatible escape control codes.

The ZX printer is almost totally software driven which was the design goal. Quite a lot was said about it on comp.sys.sinclair a while ago.

Maybe DVD recordable discs will be more affordable in a year or so. CD recordable discs started at about ?7 each and are now only 80p for a branded disc. As long as you have cassettes they can get scanned/tzxed/documented someday.
