It has the DIN plug type connection.

I used the power supply off my old MegaDrive. Not much use though if you dont have an old MegaDrive.

yeah it sounds like this one isn't much good unless you have the black +2a/b
I am using a normal Spectrum power supply with my +2.

So I still need to find a US power supply that offers the higher voltage DC out (higher than the 16K / 48K) that the Spectrum 128 requires. Anyone have any ideas of a compatible unit?

It's possible it could be the power supply unit, especially if it's a replacement type. Most cheapo replacements are only 300mA types that won't run hardly anything bar a Sega MS or Atari 2600.
