                      One Day Cricket

                      By Andrew Finch

England's cricketers can't seem to bat their way out of a

paper bag these days, so here's a chance for QL owners to

go to bat for themselves.

One Day Cricket can be played by one or two players. The

normal rules of the game are used and a score card is shown

at the end of each over.

[ And yes, this should be a QL program. What gives?

Well, apparently someone (hi, Martijn!) misread the

magazine page and entered it into the World of Spectrum

database anyway. That, of course, constitutes a

challenge, so I ported it to the Spectrum. The screen

dimensions are a little different (the most important

difference being that it has fewer characters per line,

but, oddly enough, two more lines) and the sound is a

bit more bleepy and less squeaky, but all in all the

result is remarkably similar to the original. The

animation is rather slower, that's the main gameplay

  difference.

Oh, and as a Dutchman, I felt that it was incumbent

on me to change the teams from the original Australia

vs England from the 1980s to something a bit more

  contemporary and patriotic...
