THE GAME: The Lord of the Manor is mad as a hatter. He's asked you and your crazy apprentice to come and lay white carpets all over the manor house but when you get there you find you weren't the only ones invited  and that's where the fun begins. Rival carpetfitters make life difficult and sometimes it's hard to tell whose side your apprentice is on! But that won't stop you finding nine different screens filled with frantic fun and frustration in CARPET CAPERS.

LOADING INSTRUCTIONS

Ensure tape is rewound. Type LOAD"" ENTER. Then press the PLAY key on the cassette unit. The Spectrum will then load and run the program. When the program has loaded press the stop key on the cassette unit.

PLAYING THE GAME

1. To stay alive you must eat food and drink tea.

2. To carry on laying carpet you must collect more hammers, cutters and tacks to make up for loss and usage.

3. You score 1 for each square of carpet laid.

4. You score 50 for covering rival carpetfitters  watch the changing border colour  it tells you which of your carpetfitting rivals can be covered.

5. To leave a room you must have reached your target, possess the key and try the correct exit.

6. If you fail to complete a room you pay a penalty equal to the target for that room.

7. You are not allowed to walk on newly laid white carpet. If you block yourself in you may have to wait for your apprentice or a rival carpetfitter to let you out  but if you have more than two of any item you can try to drop something on the carpet to spoil it.



REMEMBER: A TV SET CREATES INTERFERENCE WHICH MAY STOP THE PROGRAM LOADING PROPERLY. ENSURE YOUR CASSETTE IS AS FAR AWAY FROM THE TV AS POSSIBLE.
