EARLY PUNCTUATION
(pub. Sinclair Research; authors: Blackboard Software)

The program is loaded in three sections:

1.	Program title and logo
2.	Bytes containing graphics and machine code routines
3.	Main program

Using the program

Instructions for operating the program are given at every stage.
The program gives practice in the use of the full stop, comma,
question mark and exclamation mark. It contains only brief
examples of the use of the marks, being intended as an
accompaniment to a lesson rather than as an alternative to one. A
list of useful books to give further instruction and practice is given
below.
There are twenty sentences in the memory, which are selected at
random. In completing the sentences, the student has to find the
appropriate punctuation mark on the keyboard and press it when
the moving figure is over the point in the sentence from which the
mark has been omitted.
It is unnecessary to operate any shift keys to print the
punctuation marks.
The student has to complete ten sentences correctly and is then
rewarded with a short game.
The exercise routine includes moving graphics, sound and the
building-up of the picture which will form part of the final game.
The program gives a final score and, if the printer is attached, will
print a certificate with the student's name.

Altering the program

The program gives you the option of entering your own exercise
sentences. Instructions are included in the program and the
following rules apply:

1.	If a sentence is changed, the same punctuation mark must be
the subject of the exercise in that sentence.
2.	If a sentence is replaced, the replacement sentence must
require the same punctuation mark to be inserted.
3.	The sentence must contain only one example of the
	punctuation mark in question.
4.	The total of letters, punctuation marks and spaces in the
	sentence must not exceed 30.

Saving the program

The routine for saving a new version, which is also included in the
program, is as follows:

1.	Put an unused tape into your recorder and prepare for
	recording.
2.	Type SAVE "program name" LINE 9900: SAVE "b" CODE
	65024,513
3.	Press RECORD on the tape recorder.
4.	Press ENTER on the Spectrum.
5.	Press any key and watch the screen for further instructions.
6.	If you wish to check that the program has been recorded
correctly: type VERIFY "program name": VERIFY "b"
CODE 65024,513. Rewind the tape and press PLAY on the
	recorder.

If the screen shows the message "O.K." after running through the
program and the bytes, then they have both been correctly
recorded.
