Spectrum screen 2

2. Enter the ADDRESS in the "Address" box.
3. Enter the VALUE in the "value" box.
4. Click the "Add" button to confirm the change.

The POKE will be added to the POKE list window with a tick next to it, to indicate the POKE is active.
You can disable a POKE by clicking the tick next to the POKE you want disabled.

Repeat steps 2-4 as required, and click the close window X when done.

R80

R80 is similar to
X128/Z80, in that you can use the Multiface 128.

Once you have the Multiface 128 ROM, rename it to mf128.rom (if it isn't already called that. Chances are it will be, as this is pretty much the standard filename).
You don't actually have to rename it, as R80 lets you choose the ROM, but it saves a lot of hassle (plus it's handy if you want to use another Multiface capable emulator as well as/instead of R80)

Copy the mf128.rom file to the same directory as the main r80 program, start R80.

R80 screen 1

1. Press F2, and highlight the model of Speccy you want to emulate.
2. Ensure the Multiface is active for this model, by pressing SPACE. You should switch to the screen below.

R80 screen 2

3. Ensure "Multiface" is set to "on". Ignore the "Multiface ROM" option below that. That's for if you didn't rename it. We already renamed it, so we're happy.

4. Once your screen's Multiface section matches the image above, press ESC to return to the first screen (the hardware selection one).
5. Press ESC again to return to the emulator.

6. To activate the Multiface, just hit F11 to get this screen:

R80 screen 3

7. Highlight "Multiface 128", and press ENTER. The Multiface will launch.

The good news is that you won't have to go through all that again. Erm, so long as you don't do anything daft like changing the .ini file, or the like. You only need do steps 6 and 7. Yay!

Now please refer to the section on using the Multiface.

Warajevo

Due to the nature of Warajevo (it kills the PC if you try to Task Switch. Tch!), I couldn't get any screenshots.
Still, it's relatively simple....

1. Press F3 to enter the Monitor
2. Type M
ADDRESS (replacing ADDRESS with the ADDRESS. Eg M 54321. There MUST be a space between the M and the number)
3. Press ENTER
4. Type P VALUE (replacing VALUE with the VALUE. Eg P 183. There MUST be a space between the P and the number)

Repeat steps 2-4 as required.

Type Q and press ENTER to return to the game

WinZ80

WinZ80 is essentially just a Windows version of
Z80, so the instructions are basically the same - the menus just look different.

This emulator doesn't have the ability to POKE via a GUI. However, it does come preloaded with the Multiface 128 ROM in place allowing you to enter POKEs the way you would have to on a normal Speccy - with a Multiface.

Because of this, the intructions are split in two. This section will tell you how to activate the Multiface within the emulator. You should then refer to the section detailing how to use the Multiface. That section can be found HERE.

WinZ80 screen 1

Press F9, or select "Hardware" from the "Settings menu" (as shown above)

WinZ80 screen 2

This should open a window as above. Ensure the box marked "Multiface 128 is checked, as above.

With this checked, you can activate the Multiface 128 at any time by pressing F5.
Pease refer to the section on Using the Multiface 128 for further details.

X128

This emulator doesn't have the ability to
POKE via a GUI. However, it is compatible with the Multiface 128 ROM MF128.ROM file.
Unlike Z80 and WinZ80, it doesn't come with the ROM as part of the standard installation (Boo!). Unlike those two, it's free (Yay!)

As I'm unsure of the situation with the Multiface ROM (several downloadable emulators come with it), I'm unwilling to say where to find it. However, those nice peeps at Yahoo and Google will help you find it. If it takes you any longer than 5 minutes to find it, you're obviously not doing something right! :-)

Anyway, once you have the MF128.ROM file, copy it to the directory where you have X128 installed. If you've done it all correctly, the Multiface 128 should activate when you press F2. You should then refer to the section on Using the Multiface 128 for further details.

YASE (Yet Another Spectrum Emulator)

This emulator doesn't have the ability to
POKE via a GUI. However, it is compatible with the Multiface 128 ROM MF128.ROM file.

The version I downloaded had mf128.rom and mfplus3.rom (Multiface +3) included, but I'm not sure if this was a mistake or not. If the version you have doesn't, then you'll have to find it yourself. It should be in the same directory where you have YASE installed.

YASE screen 1

Press F8 to select your Speccy type.

Note that you will require mfplus3.rom if you want to use the Multiface while emulating a +3.
Also, Multiface will only work in the "Spectrum" models (so don't use Dadaktik, Pentagon or Scorpion)

The Multiface 128 should activate when you press F6.

You should then refer to the section on Using the Multiface 128 for further details.

Z80 screen 1

Press F9 to get to the Select hardware menu (as shown above).

Press M so that the section marked "[M]ultiface 128:" toggles to ON.

Press ESC to return to the emulator (assuming you don't want to switch to a different model of Spectrum)

You can activate the Multiface 128 at any time by pressing F5.
Pease refer to the section on Using the Multiface 128 for further details.

If you don't like the Multiface interface, there is another way of doing it.

1. Press F9 to get to the Select Hardware screen.

2. Select the option with SamRam included and press CTRL+ENTER to select without reset.

3. Press D.

4. You should drop into a MONS-type asssembler.

5. Press M to enter the address of the POKE (in HEX). Press ENTER

6. Press B. Enter the VALUE of the POKE in HEX. Press ENTER.

Repeat steps 5 and 6, as required.

Press ESC, and then N to return to the emulator.

Z80 Stealth

Z80Stealth doesn't support the Multiface 128, nor does it have a specific GUI for entering POKEs.
However, it does have the Debugger screen, which as well as disassembling, allows you to enter POKEs there.
It's just a bit less obvious than other emulators.

Z80 Stealth screen 1

1. Press DELETE to get to the main debugger screen
2. Press TAB until the window in the picture above is highlighted

Z80 Stealth screen 2

3. Hold CTRL and press G to get the
ADDRESS window (pic)
4. Enter the ADDRESS (Delete the # if the ADDRESS of your POKE is in decimal - if it is 5 numbers, it's decimal)

Z80 Stealth screen 3

5. Type the VALUE (a box will appear). Press ENTER to confirm the change
(Note you will have to delete the # if the VALUE of your POKE is in decimal and not zero)

Repeat steps 3-5 as required, and press ESC to return to the emulator.

Using the MULTIFACE 128
Several emulators, including R80, X128, WinZ80, and Z80 allow you to use the Multiface 128. The details on how to activate it are listed for each individual emulator. This section tells you how to use it once you have it installed.

Multiface 128. Screen 1

When Multiface 128 is activated, you should see this screen. If you don't you probably have a version of the MF128 rom which has the add-on program Genie installed. Click HERE for the instructions on using that.

If you didn't want the Multiface (erm, why are you reading this, then?), press "r" to exit. Otherwise, follow these steps which will guide you to entering a POKE using the Multiface 128.

Multiface 128. Screen 2

1. Press T for tool. You will see it displays an example POKE setting as above.

Multiface 128. Screen 3

2. Press SPACE to clear the ADDRESS box to allow you to enter your own (as above).

Multiface 128. Screen 4

3. Enter the ADDRESS in the ADDRESS section.

Upon entering the ADDRESS part of the POKE, the screen will automatically change to show the current VALUE of the ADDRESS you just entered.

Multiface 128. Screen 4

4. Enter the VALUE part of the POKE in the "Poke:" box, and press ENTER

You should see the VALUE of the ADDRESS you typed in has now been altered to the VALUE you keyed in. If you realise you've made a mistake with this VALUE, repeat step 4.

If you require to enter any more POKEs, go back to step 2. Otherwise press q to return to the first page, and r to leave the multiface.

Using GENIE

The first time you activate the Multiface with Genie installed, you will see something like this screen:

Genie

1. Press D for Disassemble. You should see the screen change to:

Genie

2. When prompted for the start address, just press ENTER.

Genie
You should see Genie disassembles a section of memory like this

3. Press A for Alter memory (no, this isn't written on the screen). You should see a screen like:

Genie

4. Enter the
ADDRESS part of the POKE. As soon as you enter the last digit of the POKE, it should change to show you the current VALUE of that ADDRESS (as below)

Genie

5. Enter the VALUE part of the POKE. If the VALUE is less than 3 digits, press RETURN to confirm the change. If it is a 3 digit number, the change will be confirmed automatically, and the screen will change to show the new VALUE of the memory ADDRESS (as above)

Genie

Press SPACE to return to a screen similar to the one you should see at Step 3 of above.
If you need to enter any more POKEs, go back to step 3. Otherwise, press SPACE again to return to the start.

Press R to leave the Genie multiface utility, and go back to the game.
