This terminal program comes in two parts:
Please note that ZCP.BAS is a binary program itself, so you will need another program to transfer it across with! Try Z88COM which can be transferred as a series of text files.
Use of the program to connect to BBSs is detailed in the documentation. Below, I will show how the program can be used to transfer files to and from another computer connected to the Z88 with a suitable cable.
This program is considerably easier to use than Z88COM, mainly due to its "remote" facility. It also seems faster in operation.
Xon/Xoff should be turned off, and all other Panel settings should be left at the defaults.
Start up the terminal software on your computer (on the PC, Windows Terminal is ideal). Set the communications port parameters as follows:
You should also disable any linefeed/carriage return conversions.
Now, run ZCP on the Z88 and select the "remote" option.
Once the "remote" mode option has been selected, a list of available commands appears on the other computer. The "?" command gives more detailed information on each option. In general, you can perform all operations without using the Z88's keyboard at all. All you need to remember is to set your computer to use the Xmodem (checksum) protocol for file transfers.
You may notice that transferred files are sometimes slightly longer when they arrive at their destination. This is generally caused by the fact that Xmodem transfers files in blocks of 128 bytes, and so the file length gets rounded up to the nearest multiple of 128.
If you want to avoid this, you'll have to either write your own software to use with the Import/Export popdown, or buy a commercial link package.
